Description +

We’d love to bring that old-world warmth back for you with our Terracotta Earthen Kadai, just like in our parents’ and grandparents’ kitchens, where the comforting aroma of home-cooked food filled the air, bubbling away in a humble clay pot. The Terracotta Earthen Kadai is made from 100% natural clay blessed by our earth and crafted by skilled artisans from our community. It is a kitchenware that brings tradition along for the ride.

It has an absorbent surface that retains moisture and seals your flavours in a way that turns meals into cherished memories. The kadai evenly spreads heat, which makes cooking way easier, and allows you to let your food uncoil gently, just as it did in your grandmother's kitchen. That is the great alkaline alchemy of clay, at work. Clay naturally balances acidity while amplifying minerals and feeding our body with food that feeds our heart. From spicy tadka to nutritious sabzi to ceremonial meals, the kadai is an instrument of flavour and true warmth from the earth.

Care instructions +
How to clean the kadai:
1. After every use, wash the lamp using mild soap and warm water, or by using salt or ash and a scouring pad.
2. Use no harsh detergents/soaps as it can only damage the porous surface.
3. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before packing away.
Disclaimer +
As with all handcrafted clay products, each set may slightly vary in shape, tone, or size, adding authenticity and charm to every piece. Small surface marks or irregularities are part of the natural firing process and are not considered defects.
How to use +

Seasoning clay cookware:

Day 1-3: Starch Water Soak
Prepare starch water: Use the leftover water from boiling rice or any starchy food.
Fill the pot: Pour the starch water inside the clay cookware and let it soak for 3 days. This helps seal the pores of the pot.
Day 4-6: Boiling Water at Low Heat
Low heat usage: After the starch water has been discarded, fill the pot with water.
Boil water at 30% flame: Slowly boil the water for about 15-20 minutes on low heat for the next 3 days. This further strengthens the clay and prepares it for cooking.
Day 7-9: Steaming Food
Steam food: You can now steam simple food items like vegetables or rice for the next 3 days.
Gradually increase usage: After this, your clay cookware is fully seasoned and ready for regular cooking.

This process helps prolong the life of your clay cookware and ensures it cooks evenly.
Maintenance +
Maintenance:
If there appears to be a mold forming follow the steps to remove it effectively:
1. Mix equal parts vinegar or baking soda in equal parts water and place the solution in the pot. Bring it to a gentle boil for 20 minutes to disinfect and loosen the mold.
2. Scrub gently with a brush on the affected areas.
3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and let it air dry completely.
4. To avoid the formation of mold, store in dry, ventilated areas. After wash, dry it completely in sunlight for not more than 30 minutes.
