Overview

Description

Nadhi Pattamadai Pai takes its name and its very character from the river Nadhi in Tamil and lives up to that inspiration in every woven thread. The mat is crafted from Korai grass, a fine natural reed harvested from the banks of the Thamirabarani river, soaked, sun-dried, and hand-dyed before being woven on a traditional floor loom by skilled weavers of Pattamadai village who have inherited this craft across generations. The design beautifully captures two contrasting moods of a river in a single composition the centre of the mat is a wide, calm, plain spread woven in the natural warmth of the Korai grass, evoking the still and peaceful surface of a river at rest, while the borders come alive with a striking repeating zigzag pattern in bold deep indigo against the natural golden tone of the grass, flowing endlessly like a waterfall cascading over ancient rock. Thin, precise horizontal strips run across the body of the mat, adding a quiet structure that ties the stillness of the centre and the energy of the borders into one harmonious whole. The mat is naturally cooling to the body, smooth to the touch, and soft enough to be folded like fabric, making it equally suited for sleeping, sitting, yoga, meditation, or simply dressing up a living space with something that is both functional and deeply beautiful. Available in multiple colour combinations, the Nadhi Pai is a piece that carries the rhythm of nature, the skill of human hands, and the quiet elegance of a tradition woven over centuries.
